Well Known -The Sixth Day of LCC
“If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.” – Matthew 6:30-32
Did you get what you wanted for Christmas? If you’re like most the answer is, ‘yes and no’. I would hazard a guess that the things you could say yes about came from people who know you. From people who’ve spent enough time with you that they know your likes, dislikes, needs, wants and desires. So what they got you for Christmas is a reflection of that knowledge, an affirmation of the relationship you enjoy.
This is what Jesus is expressing in the verse from Matthew above. God is our father. He knows us intimately. Unlike even the closest human relationships we have, God knows us better than we know ourselves. His gifts are absolutely always exactly the right thing, even when we’re not sure why he’s given it to us. When we live certain of this something wonderful happens. Worry is eradicated. We learn how to give up those desperate urges to take care of ourselves chasing after things that God has already taken care of. In short, we live in faith.
Today and in the year ahead it is my hope that you live confident that you’re known by God. Well known.
Prayer
Father God, as I look ahead to a new year please grant me peace in the certainty that I am well known by you and that you are taking care of my every need. Thank you for setting me free from worry. Amen.
