Creature Comforts -The Fifth Day of LCC
Then the word of the LORD came to Elijah: “Leave here, turn eastward and hide in the Kerith Ravine, east of the Jordan. You will drink from the brook, and I have directed the ravens to supply you with food there.” – 1 Kings 17:2-4
How fascinating to read God’s instruction to Elijah. After announcing God’s judgment that a drought would be visited on Israel he is told to go hide himself from the wrath of the king. There in hiding God will care for him. And this care will come in the form of ravens delivering food. This meant that Elijah was in such a hurry to get out of town he couldn’t even pack supplies.
There are predicaments in our lives. Sometimes these situations come about because of something we did and sometimes it happens when something was done to us. We get in trouble for doing the right thing, as Elijah did in obeying God’s command to pronounce judgment to King Ahab. We get in trouble when we make mistakes.
In any case, God provides comfort and aid to those who are hurting, alone, isolated, and going through difficulties. He is our supply when we have none. And all the resources of heaven and earth are at his command. Even animals do his bidding if that’s what it takes to get us through a rough patch.
If you’re going through a difficult time (and many do during the holidays) take comfort in knowing that God is with you and has no limits on the resources he can employ to help you through.
Prayer
Lord, when I go through difficult times remind me that you are with me and have all the resources at your disposal to get me through. Help me to trust that and to wait on you with confidence. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
