You’re On!-The Third Day of LCC
Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ. For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body—whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. Even so the body is not made up of one part but of many. – 1 Corinthians 12:12-14
In Act II Scene VII of William Shakespeare’s ‘As You Like It’ these immortal words are spoken,
All the world's a stage,
And all the men and women merely players:
They have their exits and their entrances;
And one man in his time plays many parts
Paul expressed this truth in his first letter to the Corinthians. Every single person has a contribution to make in their lifetime. You have skills, experiences and gifts unique to you and the body of Christ, the Church, is a lesser place when you make excuses for not using those gifts. The Church is a lesser place when any of us fail to acknowledge that everyone has something to offer or fall for the lie that one person is better than another because of their particular role.
There are those whose gifts are more public and those who do their work in obscurity and are quite happy to do so. But if what Shakespeare wrote is true…and I believe it is…that all the world’s a stage, then there are no spectator seats! What role does God have for you? Whether you’re currently engaged in playing that role right now or not you can be certain that sitting backstage forever isn’t an option. There’s your cue. You’re on!
Prayer
Lord, I’m humbled to know that you have given me life experiences, skills and talents that are unique in all of humanity. Reveal to me where I am to use these gifts and what role you have for me to play. Amen.
