"...Where you go, I will Go…” Ruth 1:16
You can spend your life anywhere, with anybody, doing anything, then suddenly get involved with someone and sense that your destiny's tied to that person. It's what made Elisha leave his farm and follow Elijah, to wash his clothes and set up his tent. It's what made Timothy hang out with Paul, an old man preparing to be executed. As he passed books and blankets through a prison window Timothy was saying, 'There's something about you that touches me. Without you I will not reach my destiny.'
Ruth stayed close to her mother-in-law Naomi because Naomi knew the ropes. Listen: '"...whither thou goest, I will go..."' The fact that Naomi was of a different nationality and at a different time of life, did not matter to Ruth. Doubtless there were times when they did not relate to each other at all. When God wants to mature and stretch you, He will send somebody into your life with different experiences and insights. Naomi was Ruth's eyes and ears in a world she did not know; she was her tutor and guide in avoiding the pitfalls of life. Naomi understood where Ruth had been; that's important because we are all products of our past. She also knew where Ruth needed to go; all Ruth needed was the courage and humility to follow.
God's constantly rising up people to take on new challenges. If you hope to be called for duty, recognize those He sends into your life to prepare you. Whether they come to comfort, counsel, correct or challenge you, remember the words of Jesus '"...whoever accepts anyone I send accepts me and whoever accepts me accepts the one who sent me” (John 13:20).
Prayer
Heavenly Father, Help me today to see those you place in my life to help, guide, and direct me to go to the places you are leading me to go. In Jesus’ Name, Amen
