Home Sweet Home
Lord, you have been our dwelling place in all generations. – Psalm 90:1
You’ve seen the shows. It started with This Old House and today there are countless hours of television dedicated to homes. Buying them, building them, restoring them, repairing them, the list goes on and on. Until recently owning a home was held up as one of the cornerstones of the American Dream. Then the dream became a nightmare as the burden of having a home became unbearable for so many.
When we put our hopes and dreams into bricks and mortar…or more likely wood and aluminum siding…eventually we discover how true are the words of Jesus in Matthew, “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.”
God’s desire for us is that He be our dwelling place. That we store up all our hopes and dreams in him. When we do this the stuff of this world, houses and all, can be put in their proper perspective. They are blessings from God and resources to be used for His glory. These things come and go. There are times of plenty and times of want. At any moment we may be called to give them up or they may be taken from us. But if our hope is in the Lord then our home is always secure.
Prayer
Lord, you have been our dwelling place in all generations and will be forever. Let me rest secure in this sure knowledge. Amen.
