God's A and B Teams

All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he gives them to each one, just as he determines. 1 Corinthians 12:11

There's a commonly held misconception that the church is supposed to be a democracy. But that's not how God sees it. No question, every person deserves equal treatment in terms of kindness, love and respect. But we don't all have the same abilities or assignments because God 'is the one who gave these gifts to the church...' (Ephesians 4:11). The Bible says, 'God verified the message by...giving gifts...whenever He chose to...' (Hebrews 2:4). You love your kids, but they don't all have the same talents and abilities, right? Plus, they don't all look good in the same clothes or the same hairstyle. Likewise, God doesn't show us all the same thing or give us all the same gifts. His Word says, '...the Spirit...decides which gifts to give to each of us.' And God never makes mistakes! Even among his own disciples Jesus had 'A' and 'B' teams; and He used both. One team He took with Him up the Mount of Transfiguration, the other He sent into the city to work. When Peter, James and John went up the mountain with Jesus they may have experienced things the others couldn't have handled. But that's what they needed to fulfill the assignment God was calling them to. Or Jesus took them because He couldn’t trust them alone! Either way - notice something important: Jesus didn't try to take everybody up the mountain so that nobody would feel slighted. As a leader you've got to move beyond other people's opinions. When you know something's right, you have to do it and let the chips fall where they may.

Prayer
Heavenly Father, give me your wisdom and discernment to know who you have chosen and for what tasks. In Jesus’ Name, Amen
