Turbocharged

I ask that your minds may be opened to see his light, so that you will know what is the hope to which he has called you, how rich are the wonderful blessings he promises his people, and how very great is his power at work in us who believe. This power working in us is the same as the mighty strength which he used when he raised Christ from death and seated him at his right side in the heavenly world. – Ephesians 1:18-20

If you want to get more power out of the same size engine in your car you can add a turbocharger. This device compresses air so that you get more air and, hence, more fuel into each cylinder of your engine which increases the power of each explosion in a cylinder. Yes, you’re riding around in a vehicle that has explosions happening over and over again all the time. There are a lot of things that we don’t see that move us through life nonetheless. It’s better to be aware of what moves us than not.

As a follower of Christ Paul doesn’t want you to be ignorant of the power that is yours in this life. Far too often I find myself in situations where I’ve forgotten the power that is in me. At those times fear, desperation, and anxiousness vie for my attention. It’s then…and frankly before I get to that point…that I need to be reminded that I am turbocharged. The very breath of God through his Holy Spirit is at work in me. It is the same power God used to raise Jesus from the dead! So there is nothing I’m facing in this life that the power of God cannot overcome. If you’re dragging through life and find yourself struggling to move forward, maybe it’s time to let the turbocharger kick in. Like Paul, my wish for you is that you would know…’how very great is his power at work in us who believe.’

Prayer
Father, in those times when I am trying to make it on my own power, remind me that your power is mine. Thank you for the wonderful blessings you have promised me. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
