Betrothed – Part 2
I am jealous for you with a godly jealousy. I promised you to one husband, to Christ, so that I might present you as a pure virgin to him. 2 Corinthians 11:2
Why is it so critical that we faithfully follow and imitate Jesus? Because everything we do reflects on Him. We're His betrothed! He gets the credit each time we restrain ourselves from saying and doing things we shouldn't say and do. He receives honor when we humble ourselves and reckon our flesh dead. We present a particularly compelling witness of His goodness when we love our enemies and those who hate us, persecute us or reject us. Unfortunately He also gets a bad name when we act like the world and walk according to the tendencies of our lower nature.
A single person only has his or her own reputation to worry about; what they say and do reflects only on themselves. But a married person's conversation, conduct and words, reflect on their spouse. No man wants his wife running around town writing bad checks, engaging in lewd conversation, getting drunk and obnoxious in public, or flirting with other men. He wants her to refrain from those behaviors because he loves her and wants her reputation to be good. He also wants his wife to be a godly reflection on him and their family.
We are eternally blessed with a Bridegroom that's perfect. His reputation is stellar in all respects, His character unblemished, His strength and courage unmatched, His love for us beyond imagination. So, our betrothal to Him demands that we no longer live for ourselves - but for Him! Why? Because how we live each day, reflects on Him!
Prayer
Heavenly Father, help me to live in a way that reflects your nature and character so others can see our relationship in all I do. In Jesus’ Name, Amen
