Where's Your Confidence?
"But blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, whose confidence is in him. Jeremiah 17:7
To succeed at whatever God wants you to do, you must learn to be confident, not self-confident, but confident in Christ. Listen to Paul: '...I am self-sufficient in Christ's sufficiency' (Philippians 4:13). Jesus said, '...without Me, you can do nothing' (John 15:5). It seems to take forever to learn this truth. Most of our struggling and frustration comes from misplaced confidence. Paul says, '...put no confidence in the flesh' (Philippians 3:3). Now, he's not saying we aren't supposed to trust anyone. No, he's saying if we give others or ourselves the trust that belongs to God alone, we won't succeed. He won't let us!
To succeed at anything we must have confidence, but first and foremost it must be confidence in God. We must believe that He wants us to succeed. We may fail on our way to success, but if we trust God He'll take our mistakes and cause them to work for our good and His glory (Romans 8:28).
Sometimes our confidence is shaken when trials come, especially if they're lengthy. When this happens we must learn to do what David did: '...David encouraged and strengthened himself in the Lord...' (1 Samuel 30:6). When David had no one else to believe in him, he believed in himself. He also believed in God's ability through him. One lady writes: 'The Lord told me that if I didn't believe in myself, I really didn't believe in Him. He said, "I am in you, but I can only do through you, what you believe Me for."'
Prayer
Heavenly Father, help me with my confidence in you, and ultimately with myself. In Jesus’ Name, Amen
