Come And See

But Nathanael said to Philip, "Can anything good come from Nazareth?" Philip answered, "Come and see." – John 1:46

We remember barely 10% of what we hear. Don’t believe it, ask anybody in your church on Tuesday what the sermon was about on Sunday and see if they can recall more than 10%, if that much. That’s not a knock against the good work pastors do to prepare and present their message. It’s a proven fact. However, we retain over 80% of what we personally experience. Connect truth with experience and we assimilate it much better.

Philip told Nathanael about Jesus but that didn’t convince him. It was the experience of Jesus that brought him to this confession, ‘Then Nathanael said to Jesus, "Teacher, you are the Son of God; you are the King of Israel."’

We can tell our friends all about Jesus. We can invite them to hear a really good sermon at church. But if we really, really want them to know Jesus we should show them Jesus. Walking through life with others and showing them the mercy, compassion, care and love of Jesus in the midst of their life brings experiences they’ll never forget. So the next time someone asks what so special about this Jesus you follow simply say, ‘Come and see!’

Prayer
Father, you sent your dear Son to walk in our midst so that we could experience him. As the Body of Christ may we bring that same experience into the lives of those with whom we come in contact. Help me be the Jesus experience to everyone I know. Amen.
