Wisdom For Single Parents
Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.
1 Peter 4:8
If you are raising children alone, teach them these principles. As you do, they will be reinforced in you. You would be surprised how many instructors learn while they teach.
First, teach them to accept change. When we get stuck in the past, it is always at the expense of the future. After the initial shock is over and the anger has dissipated, step over your depression and start making plans. Announce to your heart that you are going to live again. Do not get stuck in a stage that was just meant to be part of a process. This too shall pass. Let it!
Second, teach them that failure does not prevent success. We are fuelled by the past, but fuel only works when it is combusted into another form. Allow the pain of your past to fuel your future with wisdom and compassion. Some of the most successful people you know have experienced failure. This year's winner was last year's runner up. Learn from your mistakes. Seize the new day! Once you do that, anything is possible.
Third, teach them to love imperfect people. Tell your children that love is a risk, but it is worth taking. Hearing you say that will help them not to become cynical. Explain that when we love people, we must love what is good and accept what is still under construction. It will save them untold heartache if you teach them that all of us will disappoint each other, and that God's remedy for this is - 'love covers over a multitude of sins' (1Peter 4:8).
Prayer
Heavenly Father, Help me to learn and teach and reflect that which you are teaching me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen
