Whatever It Takes!
The law was added so that the trespass might increase. But where sin increased, grace increased all the more,
Romans 5:20
Although Paul was always deeply religious, he did not start out as a Christian. As a Jew, he was obsessed with the law; an intellectual who could debate with the finest minds of his generation. Prolific, articulate and educated, he was deeply committed to the tenets of his faith. And he hated Christians! He watched as Stephen was stoned to death and served as one who headed up the execution.
Paul never dreamt that one day he would switch sides. But when God has an agenda for your life you do not get to vote on it! By the time He places the hook in your jaw, He has already begun to work out His purpose for you. Even while Paul held the coats of Stephen's executioners, God had plans in place to use him; just like He had plans to use you when you were busy getting drunk and doing your own thing, or running around from relationship to relationship. None of that intimidated God because, 'Where sin abounded, grace abounded much more.'
Had Paul known God planned to meet him that day on the Damascus road, he might have taken a different route. We read: '...He was...dazed by a blinding flash...As he fell to the ground...' (Acts 9:3-4). This proud Pharisee had an appointment with God that was not in his diary; one that knocked him off his high horse! And to bring you into submission to His will, He will do 'whatever it takes.' So, be warned - God will not permit your stubbornness to subvert His plans for your life.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, help me to submit to your will and not fight a losing battle against it! In Your Holy Precious Name, Amen
