Stay Focused

The sun is a powerful source of energy. Every hour it washes the earth with billions of kilowatts of energy. Yet with a hat and sunscreen you can bathe in its light for some hours with few ill effects. A laser, on the other hand, is a relatively weak source of energy. It takes only a few watts and focuses them. But with a laser you can drill a hole in a diamond or wipe out cancer. Focus brings possibility and power to almost anything! The greater the challenge, the more focused time it requires. 'But how can I stay focused?' you ask:

• Remove distractions. The best way to keep your mind off things you do not want is by keeping it on things you do. Do not do easy things first, or hard things first, or urgent things first - do first things first. Switching from task to task can cost you up to 40 percent efficiency. You get more done by focusing on one task at a time, not by switching constantly.

• Always check your progress. Only when you have clarified your goal in writing, can you develop a plan and measure your progress. To do well at a few things you have to give up many things. Since you cannot know everybody, make sure you know the right people and build a relationship with them. Since you cannot do everything, make sure you do the right things and delegate the rest. There are only a few exceptional opportunities in any person's lifetime. Ask God to help you see them, and seize them!

Heavenly Father, help me dump some of the things I am now doing and spend more time doing the things that are important that you want me to do. In Jesus’ Name, Amen
