Comforting Others

“Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.”
1 Thessalonians 5:11

Face it: we live in a world that is, on occasion, a frightening place. Sometimes we sustain life-altering losses that are so profound and tragic that it seems we could never recover. But with God’s help and with the help of encouraging family members and friends, we can and we will recover.

In times of need, God’s Word is clear: as believers, we must offer comfort to those in need by sharing not only our courage but also our faith. I truly believe that no journey is complete that does not lead through some dark valleys. We can properly comfort others only with the comfort that we ourselves have received from God.

In times of adversity, we are wise to remember the words of Jesus, who, when He walked on the waters, reassured His disciples, saying, “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid” (Matthew 14:27). Then, with Christ on His throne – and with trusted friends and loving family members at our sides – we can face our fears with courage and faith day after day.

Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, this world at times is a frightening place. There are things that happen around me and to me that I do not understand. Help me today to trust in You and in Your promises found in scripture. Empower me by Your Holy Spirit to take courage and to not be afraid. Lord, use me to share this Good News with others so that they will also trust in You to be their strength, their protector and their savior. I pray this in Jesus’ Name. Amen
