Contentment

Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you."
Hebrews 13:5

Do you sometimes feel swamped by your possessions? Do you seem to be spending more and more time keeping track of the things you own while making mental notes of the things you intend to buy? If so, here’s a word of warning: your focus on material possessions may be getting in the way of your relationships – your relationships with the people around you and your relationship with God.

Society teaches us to honor possessions while God teaches us to honor people. And if we seek to develop followers of Jesus Christ, we must never invest too much energy in the acquisition of “stuff”. Earthly riches are here today and all too soon are gone. Our real riches, of course, are in heaven, and that’s where we should focus our thoughts and our energies.

Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, keep me mindful that material possessions cannot bring me true joy – my true joy comes only from You. I praise and thank You for the talents and treasures that You have blessed me with. Empower me to share Your love and gifts with my family, with friends and with neighbors. I pray this in Jesus’ Name. Amen
