Paul's Prayer

For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding.
Colossians 1:9

Paul prayed that they would know and do the will of God. Can you think of anything more important? What a testimony these Christians in Rome had. Listen: 'Everyone has heard about your obedience...' (Romans 16:19). Your obedience is the badge of your character, and when your name is mentioned, no one should even dare to suspect you of compromise.

Next, Paul prayed for success in their lives. Listen: '...bearing fruit in every good work...' (Colossians 1:10). I have seen what a few men with a heart for God can do. Now I am praying for an army of them to prosper and catch the vision of going into all the world preaching the Gospel! (see Matthew 28:19) Why shouldn't you be one of them?

Next, he prayed for power in their lives. '...strengthened with all power according to His glorious might...' (Colossians 1:11). Think of your vacuum cleaner; if it is not plugged in, it is useless! It depends on another source to make it effective. If you pull the plug, it is worthless! We are like that! Without God's power we are no good!

Finally, Paul prayed for them to have a right attitude. Listen again: 'giving thanks to the Father...' (Colossians 1:11-12). Joy is an attitude, and it affects every other area of your life and the life of everyone you come into contact with too!

So there are some things for you to pray about today!

Prayer
Heavenly Father, I lift up to you today those brothers and sisters in Christ who each day, through difficult times, faithfully proclaim your name and serve those in need. In Jesus' Name, Amen
