Power Plays – Part 2

"For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil."
Genesis 3:5

The moment Satan said, "You will be like God" Eve swallowed the bait - hook, line and sinker. And the rest, as they say, is history! Now maybe your personal power quest isn't so obvious. You can't imagine spending $4000 on a 'power table manners seminar.' And some of the City's dealings make you shake your head in disgust, because that kind of power holds no attraction for you. In fact, if the serpent had tried to tempt you, you'd have sent him on his way, right? Or would you? Power plays come in many forms - some as seemingly harmless as: (a) not complimenting those under you in case they forget their place (b) refusing to be loving and courteous to your partner in case you lose your most powerful weapon - control (c) putting personal ambition ahead of personal integrity (d) withholding intimacy to punish or manipulate others. All these ploys are spelled P-O-W-E-R. They're designed to get you what you want at the expense of others. Be careful. If you do make it to the top, there's only one way to go from there - down! And it's painful. Remember Muhammed Ali, the world champion boxer? He appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated more than any other athlete. Yet after his stellar career fizzled, he told a reporter, "I had the whole world and it was nothin'; just look at me now." Remember, "Whoever makes himself great will be made humble. Whoever makes himself humble will be made great" (Matthew 23:12). Today, the choice is yours.

Prayer
Heavenly Father, help me remember that when I try and lord it over others that it is NOT you speaking but my sinful flesh or Satan. Give me a servant heart that serves and loves all people. In Jesus' Name, Amen
