Three Tests
his work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each man's work.
1 Corinthians 3:13
How will God evaluate and reward what we did for Him during our lifetime? By three tests: 1) The test of intimacy! The life God rewards is not a life of performance apart from relationship with Him. Jesus said that unless we abide in Him and obey His commands, we will not bear fruit for Him (See John 15:5). He commended one church for their good works, then turned around and condemned them because they hadn't kept alive their love for Him. Listen: "I know your works, your labor, your patience - Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love" (Revelation 2:2-4). 2) The test of motive! Listen: "Take heed that you do not do your charitable deeds before men, to be seen by them. Otherwise you have no reward in heaven" (Matthew 6:1). What should our motive be? To serve God and bring Him glory. Even ordinary actions like eating and drinking can bring God glory (see 1 Corinthians 10:31). On the other hand, our most religious actions are worthless if our motive is to enhance our own ego and reputation. 3) The test of love! Listen: "Love your enemies, do good, and lend, hoping for nothing in return; and your reward will be great" (Luke 6:35). When it comes to good works, why is always more important to God than what! The Bible warns: "Look to yourselves, that we do not lose those things we worked for, but that we may receive a full reward" (2 John 8). You should constantly pray, "Lord, keep my heart right and my motives pure."
Prayer
Lord Keep my heart right and my motives pure. In Jesus' Name, Amen
