The answer to loneliness

The LORD God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him."
Genesis 2:18

A nationally syndicated columnist writes: ‘I am lonely and it saddens me. How could I not have enough friends? It seems as though every woman’s friendship quota is filled and she is no longer accepting new applicants. It is easy to fill your day with work, but it is not enough.’ And if you think it is bad for women, 90% of men report that they do not have one close friend! Mother Theresa said, ‘Loneliness is modern-day leprosy and people do not want others to know they are lepers.’ Throughout Genesis we read, ‘and God saw that it was good.’ It is a recurring theme - that is, until God created Adam. Then He said: ‘It isn’t good for man to live alone’’ Think: even though the fall had not yet happened and Adam was enjoying uninterrupted communion with His Creator, because he was without human companionship God said it was not good. Inside every one of us there is a void that only God can fill. But since the Bible says, ‘‘we’re all connected to each other..’ (see Ephesians 4:25), there is also a people-shaped void that God will not fill. And nothing else can either - not jobs, houses, cars, or money. The One who created you for connection says, ‘Do not be interested only in your own life, be interested in others’ (Philippians 2:4). So, the answer to loneliness can be found in reaching out; in finding an unmet need and pouring yourself into it. Or as the jingle of one communication’s company goes: ‘Reach out and touch someone.’ Go ahead, try it - you will be glad you did!

Prayer
Heavenly Father, help me to keep and establish friendships with others so that I can fill what you intended me to fill in my life. In Jesus’ Name, Amen

Wow - how many of us have the insight and audacity to share that we not only have a GOD-shaped vacuum but also a friend-shaped vacuum. Could it be assumed that the GOD-shaped vacuum is in our soul whereas the friend-shaped vacuum is in our heart? It is nevertheless an important idea to add to our understanding of who we are, why we are, and the reminder of how awesome God is to make us whose we are.
Thank you so much for this latest mindwarming, heartwarming, and thought provoking Devotion.
