Praise the Lord
“Praise the LORD. Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever.”
Psalm 106:1
If you’d like to guard your heart and strengthen your character, try spending more time praising God. When, by the way, is the best time to praise God? In church? Before dinner is served? When we tuck little children into bed? None of the above. The best time to praise God is all day, every day, to the greatest extent we can, with thanksgiving in our hearts.
Too many of us, even well-intentioned followers of Christ, tend to “compartmentalize” our waking hours into a few familiar categories: work, rest, play, family time, and worship. To do so is a mistake. Worship and praise should be woven into the fabric of everything we do; it should never be relegated to a weekly hour visit to church on Sunday morning.
L.B. Cowen, the author of the classic devotional text, Streams in the Desert, wrote, “Two wings are necessary to lift our souls toward God: prayer and praise. Prayer asks. Praise accepts the answer.” Today, find a little more time to lift your concerns to God in pray, and praise Him for all that He has done and is doing. He’s listening…and He wants to hear from you.
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, I praise and thank You that You have called me by name to be Yours. You have blessed me with gifts and abilities to use to make a kingdom difference in this world. Lord, help me not to compartmentalize my relationship with You but to seek You first and foremost in all I do. May my life, with Your help, be a life full of prayer and praise. I pray this in Jesus’ name. Amen
