Staying In Jerusalem, Until You Are Clothed With Power
I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high."
Luke 24:49
Jesus never intended His disciples to stay in Jerusalem. He told them, "repentance should be proclaimed, beginning from Jerusalem" (Luke 24:47). They were just to ‘tarry’, remain there temporarily until they received power from heaven, and then use it to take the Gospel to the world. After this we read that they "returned to Jerusalem, were continually in the temple praising and blessing God" (Luke 24:52-53). Now it is one thing to wait on God for directions and the power to carry them out, it is another to keep trying to re-live some earlier experience you have had with Him. So, how did God get them out of town? Listen: "At that time the church in Jerusalem suffered terribly, the Lord’s followers were scattered. Saul started arresting men and women and putting them in jail" (Acts 8:2-3). When God has a mission for you He will do whatever it takes to get you there! Before He will let you miss out on your destiny, He will permit trouble to uproot you. In fact, you may be going through certain difficulties right now because you are trying to stay where you are not supposed to be! You cannot freeze-frame your past or re-live it. When God moves, you must learn to move with Him. Philip finally ended up in Samaria where he was used by God to bring revival to the entire city. The chances are you may be going through certain trials and tests right now because God wants to use you too! So, tune in - know when it is time to move on with God!
Prayer
Heavenly Father, help me move on to where it is YOU are moving and not stay in a place longer than you want me to. In Jesus’ Name, Amen

This devotion is right on the money! I was supposed to go on a mission trip to New Orleans this week (my sixth, therefore something I have done before) with a group of people from our church, but developed some pretty awful back problems which prevented me from going. However, I am a seamstress and quilter, and I opened the Orphan Grain Train newsletter to see a "desperate need for quilters", and I also have become involved with Sue Gross's Haiti mission and will be making dresses for the girls in Pastor Isaac's orphanage and maybe others. At first I was pretty upset about not being able to go, but now I think I'm exactly where God wants me! He does have a sense of humor for sure! Only thing is, He didn't have to make this so painful! So you can see that this devotion really hit home with me - God did what He needed to do to keep me home and at my sewing machine! In spite of the pain, He is very good!

Tim: Thanks for today's devo. I needed it. So does my congregation. I may well share those words with them, as per past permission. God's blessings on your ministry.
