Your Unique Shape
“Yet, O LORD, you are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand.”
Isaiah 64:8
We’ve all envied another person’s gifts. It’s human nature to want what we don’t have. “I wish I could play the piano like him. If only I were an articulate speaker like she is. I wish I had the business experience he does.” But if we surrender to these types of feelings, we start doubting the gifts God gave us and even questions the way He created us to be. Eventually, our gifts may seem unimportant and sadly, we may stop using them altogether.
Throughout the Bible, God is referred to as the Potter, and we, as His clay. Would a potter intentionally create something ugly or worthless to him? No. He creates only what is beautiful and serves His purpose. God has the same power over us as a potter has over his clay. A potter has a design in mind before crafting a new piece. Bearing down on the clay with his hands, he gently shapes it into the desired form. Each work of art the potter creates has different characteristics and distinct qualities that separate it from the rest. Likewise, when you were created by the Father’s hand, He shaped you into His desired form, giving you your unique shape.
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, Thank you for the gifts and abilities that You have blessed me with. You have formed me for a reason and a purpose. Help me to see and understand my unique shape so that I may serve you with passion and bring glory to You. I pray this in Jesus’ Name. Amen
