When God Is Silent

"I cry out to you, O God, but you do not answer; I stand up, but you merely look at me."
Job 30:20

Ever feel like your prayers were falling on deaf ears? If you have, then you can relate when Job says, "I beg God for help, but there is no answer" or "Where is God, the One who gives songs in the night?" (Job 35:10). Some days it feels like God’s moved and left no forwarding address! So what does it mean when He doesn’t respond? What’s He up to? Here are some lessons you only learn from His silence: 1) Silence isn’t absence! David said, "I can never escape from Your Spirit! I can never get away from Your presence!" (Psalm 139:7). You have to be very secure with somebody just to sit quietly with them. Silence takes the emphasis off words and builds an intimacy where words are no longer necessary. If you want to be that comfortable around God, then learn to enter into the silence with Him. 2) Silence tests your trust level! How much trust is actually involved if somebody’s coaching your every step? It’s like a parent running alongside a child who’s learning to ride a bike. Right now the child lacks confidence but he’s going to look strange at 50 if his dad’s still trotting along beside him! At some point God takes His hand off the wheel to see how far you’ve progressed - and for a while it’ll be a wobbly ride! However, it demonstrates how far you’ve come and where you’re placing your trust.

Prayer
Heavenly Father, help me to appreciate the times of silence and understand what you are telling me in them. In Jesus’ Name, Amen

    Dear Tim and staff,

I just want to tell you how much I appreciate and love these daily messages. I often forward them to some of my bible study group. I met you, Tim, on the trip to Greece last Spring and just wanted to say that these messages are wonderful -- many times
'spot on" for me. Thank you for your diligence.
