Praying With Our Eyes Open
“From the rising of the sun to the place where it sets, the name of the LORD is to be praised.”
Psalm 113:3
When is the best time to praise God? In church? Before dinner? When we tuck little children into bed? None of the above. The best time to praise God is all day, every day, to the greatest extent we can, with thanksgiving in our hearts and with a song on our lips.
Too many of us, even well-intentioned followers of Christ, tend to “compartmentalize” our waking hours into a few familiar categories: work, rest, play, family time and worship. To do so is a mistake. Worship and praise should be woven into the fabric of everything we do; it should never be relegated to a weekly hour visit to church on Sunday morning.
I heard it once stated: “Many of my prayers are made with my eyes open. You see, it seems I’m always praying about something, and it’s not always convenient – or safe – to close my eyes.” What I appreciated is that this individual understood that God always hears our prayers and that the relative position of our eyelids is of no concern to Him.
Today, find a little more time to lift your concerns to God in prayer, and praise Him for all that He has done, is doing and will do in the days to come. Whether your eyes are open or closed, He’s listening.
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, I will praise You today for the life You have blessed me with and the opportunities to serve You ahead of me. I will praise Your Son, the Savior of my life. I will praise the Holy Spirit for opening my eyes and guiding me. May my thoughts, my prayers, my words and my deeds bring glory to You this day. I pray this in Jesus’ name. Amen
