Gleaning
And Ruth the Moabitess said to Naomi, "Let me go to the fields and pick up the leftover grain behind anyone in whose eyes I find favor." Naomi said to her, "Go ahead, my daughter."
Ruth 2:2
You'd be surprised how much you can "glean" just by following somebody more advanced than you are. If you want to elevate yourself, study those who've already graduated in the areas to which you aspire and "catch what they drop." Ruth stayed close to her mother-in-law Naomi because Naomi knew the ropes. That was smart. If you always stay in your league you'll lose every game. The fact that Naomi was of a different nationality and at a different level of maturity didn't put Ruth off one bit. Doubtless there were times when they didn't relate to each other at all. When God wants to stretch you, He'll put somebody in your life with different experiences and insights. Naomi was Ruth's eyes in a world she didn't know; she was her tutor and guide in avoiding pitfalls of life. Naomi understood where Ruth had been. That's important because we are all a product of our pasts. She also knew where she needed to go; all Ruth needed was the courage (and a little humility) to follow her. After all, if you're gonna get to "The Promised Land" you've got to leave home! God is raising up new leaders for the next generation. If you hope to be called for active duty, recognize and respond to those He sends into your life to prepare you. Whether they come to comfort, council or correct you, remember these words; "He that received who I sent received me" (John 13:20)
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank you for the people you have placed in my life that have given council and wisdom to me and kept me from doing unproductive things! In Jesus' Name, Amen
