Honesty is the Best Policy

“Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to his neighbor, for we are all members of one body.”
Ephesians 4:25

It has been said on many occasions and in many ways that honesty is the best policy. For developing disciples of Jesus Christ, it is far more important to note that honesty is God’s policy. And if we are to be servants worthy of our Savior, Jesus Christ, we must be honest and straightforward in our communications with others.

Sometimes, honesty is difficult; sometimes, honesty is painful; always, honesty is God’s commandment. In the Book of Exodus, God did not command, “You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor when it is convenient.” And he didn’t say, “You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor most of the time.” God said, "You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.” Period.

Sometime, soon, perhaps even today, you will be tempted to bend the truth or perhaps even to break it. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you resist that temptation. Truth is God’s way…and it must also be yours.

Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, You are a God of truth; help me be a person of truth. Sometimes speaking the truth is difficult, but when I am weak or fearful, Lord, give me the strength to speak words that will build up and encourage. Holy Spirit help me resist the temptation to bend the truth or to be dishonest, so that others might see Your eternal truth reflected in my words and actions. I pray this in Jesus’ Name. Amen
