Christ Seekers and Church Builders
having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with them.
2 Timothy 3:5
When the Emperor Shah Jahan’s favorite wife died, he decided to honor her by building an elaborate temple for her tomb. So he placed her wooden coffin in the middle of a field and the builders began to build around it. No expense was spared; her final resting place would be spectacular. However, as the years passed the building project itself consumed them, crowding out everything else. Then one day while he was working on the site, the Shah noticed an old, dust-covered wooden box and ordered it to be thrown out. The one he’d originally planned to honor was discarded - but the temple was erected anyhow. If you think that’s hard to believe, just look around next time you’re in church! Those who truly know Jesus never forget Him. They stand impressed before His empty tomb and occupied throne like servants before a king, while those who see just the edifice, doze and yawn. Their eyes wander. Their feet shuffle. They’re bored. Oh, they love the building, know the programs inside out and even praise the pastor. But the Bible describes them as, “Having a form of godliness but denying its power”. Why? Because the One they originally came to worship, is missing from among them. Church builders and Christ seekers in the same church, on the same day, at the same time. One sees the building with all its activities and says, “What a church!” The other sees the Lord and says, “What a Christ!” Which one are you?
