The Love of Money

"This is how it will be with anyone who stores up things for himself but is not rich toward God." Luke 12:21
John 15:9

“So much shopping to do, and so little time…” These words seem to describe the priorities of our 21st-century world. Hopefully, you’re not building your life around your next visit to your favorite mall – but you can be sure that many people are!

Our society is in love with money and the things that money can buy. God is not. God cares about people, not possessions, and so must we. We must, with God’s help, love our neighbors as ourselves, and we must, with the help of God, resist the mighty temptation to place possessions ahead of people.

Money, in and of itself, is not evil; the worship of money is. So today, as you prioritize matters of importance for you and your family, remember that God is almighty, but the dollar is not. If we worship God we are going to be blessed. But if we worship “the almighty dollar,” we will suffer the consequences of worshiping other gods.

Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, My greatest possession is my relationship with You through Jesus Christ. You have promised that, when I seek Your kingdom and Your righteousness first, You will give me whatever I need. Help me to trust in You completely for my needs, both material and spiritual. I pray this in Jesus’ Name. Amen
