I Want A New Daddy!
Remember how the LORD your God led you all the way in the desert these forty years, to humble you and to test you in order to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep his commands.
Deuteronomy 8:2
Max Lucado writes: "When we purchased a bike for 5-year-old Jenna, 3-year-old Andrea wanted one too. I explained that she was too young and already had difficulty handling a tricycle. No luck, she still wanted the bike. I explained that when she got older she'd get one. She just stared at me. I told her that a big bike would bring her more spills than thrills. She said nothing. Finally, I told her that daddy knew best. Her response: "Then I want a new daddy!"Ever feel that way? The words were from a child's mouth, but they carried an adult's sentiment. When we're disappointed or in doubt or we don't like the way things have turned out, we question the wisdom of the one who's in command. With 3-year-old logic, Andrea couldn't accept that a new bike would be anything less than ideal - a source of eternal bliss; and the one who could grant it was just sitting on his hands doing nothing. If you're being tested in some area of your life today, remember what Moses told the Israelites: "God led you in the wilderness to know what was in your heart." God lets us experience things to reveal what's in our hearts and strengthen our trust in Him. Are you angry and resentful today because of how God's been dealing with you? Or have you decided to trust Him more, because of what He's already brought you through?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, forgive me when I am acting childish, wanting things my way – and not trusting you to know what is best for me! In Jesus' Name, Amen
