Are You A Prodigal? - Part 3
"When he came to his senses..."
Luke 15:17
Mark Twain said that when he was 14, his dad was so ignorant he could hardly stand him. But by the time he was 21, he was amazed how much the old man had learned in seven years. God knows better than you. The Psalmist said, "goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life" (Psalm 23:6). The more you see lives ruined by wrong choices, the more you'll say, "It was only God's goodness and mercy that kept me from that." Look at the Prodigal: from one of the best families in town, penniless, friendless, eating pig swill - trying to satisfy a legitimate hunger in an illegitimate way! That's why we get into extra-marital affairs, go on drunken binges, financially swindle other people, or work ourselves to death, sacrificing our families in the process. Get this: there's a God-shaped blank in you - that nothing but God can fill! Finally, the penny dropped: "he came to himself..." If you'll let Him, God will stop you in the nick of time. He'll remind you of who you are and where you belong. You'll start seeing the mud you're wallowing in, the false friends, the empty achievements, the people around you who are no happier than you are. If that's where you are right now, come home. Your Father is waiting to wipe your slate clean. He still loves you. The table is spread and your seat's reserved. You haven't gone too far - yet! Tell the devil, "I've changed my mind," and come back while you still can!
Prayer
Heavenly Father, help me turn from those areas in my life where I have left you. Help me return to your waiting arms. In Jesus' Name, Amen
