Are You A Prodigal? - Part 2
Jesus continued: "There was a man who had two sons."
Luke 15:11
The Prodigal Son wanted it before he was ready for it! To know if something's good for you, you need to understand where the desire for it came from. Loving parents don't give their kids things because they cry for them; they reward them for acting responsibly. They know what's age-appropriate. And God's a loving parent! We all know of good, well-intentioned people whose gifts elevated them, only to watch them devastated because of some undisciplined area in their lives. So, listen to your Heavenly Father and don't leave home until He says you're ready! The enemy's after your substance! Listen: "[He] wasted his substance with riotous living" (Luke 15:13). Notice the word "substance." The enemy's after more than your possessions, he's after your integrity, your self-esteem, your staying power, your purpose. Prodigal, if you don't make a U-turn, you can actually lose your desire for life itself! Like a slow leak in a boat, you can be going places, yet be only a few steps from the pig sty. "How will I know when I'm there" you ask. Listen: "He joined himself to a citizen of that country; and he sent him into his fields to feed swine" (Luke 15:15). Notice the word "joined." If you want to know where you are spiritually, look beside you. Who do you speak to? Who speaks to you most? Who are you joined to? But there's hope; when the Prodigal returned, his father was waiting for him - and yours is too! Just don't stay away too long!
Prayer
Heavenly Father – forgive me when I run off and away from the guidance of your loving arms. In Jesus' Name, Amen
