What Is The Source of Your Dream?

Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit.
John 3:6

You'd be surprised at the number of people who are tormented by a dream God never gave them - who waste their lives trying to do things He neither called nor equipped them to do. What's the source of your dream? Did the most influential people in your life impose their dreams on you? "So-and-so always thought you'd make a wonderful doctor or lawyer." Stop and ask yourself, "Is it me? Others? The enemy? God?" It's not too late. If your dreams are not of God, go back and seek Him and He'll give you one that is. Look deep within; who are you trying to impress? Are you trying to prove to your ex-husband or wife that you can make it without them, or show your parents you're just as talented as your brother or sister, or demonstrate to the world that you can overcome your beginnings and pull yourself up by your own bootlaces? Your dream cannot be born out of your unresolved issues. That only breeds a need for control and recognition and dooms you to fail. Furthermore, if your dream is from God, you mustn't be impatient like Abraham and try to "make it happen." God's promises can never be fulfilled through fleshly effort. If only Abraham had waited, he could've had Isaac who represents "the blessing of the Lord that makes rich, and He adds no sorrow to it" (see Proverbs 10:22). No matter how long it takes, wait for God's timing, prepare yourself thoroughly, and go only when He says "Go!"

Prayer
Heavenly Father – help me sort out what is from you vs. others so that I can be sure which direction I am going in. I know you will reveal to me what is of you – and your Word will reinforce that! In Jesus' Name, Amen
