The Joy of Serving God

Be shepherds of God's flock that is under your care, serving as overseers - not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not greedy for money, but eager to serve.
1 Peter 5:2

Martha and Mary both loved Jesus, but they showed their love in different ways. Mary sat at the Master's feet, taking in every word. Martha, meanwhile, busied herself with preparations for the meal to come. When Martha asked Jesus if He was concerned about Mary's failure to help, Jesus replied, "Mary has chosen better" (Luke 10:42). The implication is clear; as followers of Christ, we must spend time with Jesus before we spend time for Him. But, once we have placed Christ where He belongs - at the center of our hearts - we must go about the business of serving the One who has saved us.

How can we serve Christ? By sharing His message and by serving those in need. As followers of Jesus, we are to make ourselves humble servants to our families, to our neighbors, and to the world. We are to help the helpless, love the unloved, protect the vulnerable, and care for the sick. As Christ willingly gave Himself for us upon the cross may we willing give ourselves to Him today.

Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, Thank You for Your many blessings that you pour out upon me every day. Help me to remember that Jesus came to serve and not to be served. May this be my attitude today as opportunities present themselves to me. Holy Spirit guide me according to Your will, so that I might be a worthy servant in all that I say and do. I pray this in Jesus' Name, Amen
