Would You Die For Jesus?

When he opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain because of the word of God and the testimony they had maintained.
Revelation 6:9

What kind of people are these anyway? People who've given their lives for the Word of God, and the testimony they've maintained before a hostile world. Try measuring yourself by that standard! 'Are you trying to make me feel bad?' you say. No, just: 1) More grateful. 'Grateful for what?' you ask. That your faith and your testimony are so threatening to the enemy, that you're on his hit-list. He doesn't attack low-impact Christians, he serenades them. 2) More prayerful. Listen: 'Remember those in prison as if you were their fellow prisoners and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering' (Hebrews 13:3). 'But what does that verse mean to me?' you ask. Next time you bang your thumb with a hammer and your whole body aches, remember those words; then begin immediately to pray for the great big worldwide body of believers, many of whom are still being persecuted, imprisoned, tortured and killed in Christ's name. 3) More faithful. Richard Wurmbrand, who wrote Tortured For Christ, said: 'What a person really believes is not what he says in his creeds, but what he's willing to die for'. Now, the odds are you'll never be called upon to die for Jesus. But the real issue is that if you're not willing to die for Him, what are the chances that you'll actually live for Him? Before you answer, ask yourself, 'How much of my time, my treasures and my talents am I investing in Christ's kingdom?'

Prayer
Heavenly Father, help me to die to self so that I will be willing to die for you like you did for me. In Your Precious Holy Name, Amen

I am so thankful for these devotions. God is speaking to me and encouraging me through the word they proclaim, and giving me words to encourage others. Thank you.
