Eternally Grateful

They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.
Lamentations 3:23

Philip Yancey says: ‘On my first visit to Yellowstone National Park, flocks of tourists surrounded the geyser; Old Faithful, cameras trained like weapons while a big digital clock predicted the next eruption. We were in the dining room of the inn overlooking the geyser when the clock showed one minute to go. So along with every other diner, we rushed to the window to see the big event. We ‘oohed’ and ‘aahed’ and clicked our cameras; some even applauded. But glancing back I noticed that not a single waiter bothered even to look up. Old Faithful had become so familiar; it had lost its power to impress them.’ The Bible says, ‘The unfailing love of the Lord never ends!’ Great is His faithfulness; His mercies begin afresh each day’ (Lamentations 3:22-23 NLT). Not only do God’s mercies begin afresh each day, your sense of gratitude should too. Your days should be saturated in it. Continual gratitude comes from looking beyond your blessings to their source. What source? A source of unfailing love, great faithfulness and mercy that’s already at work when your eyes open each morning! How’s that for total coverage? ‘But some days I struggle,’ you say. Listen: ‘If we are unfaithful, He remains faithful’’ (2 Timothy 2:13). Did you get that? Even when you’ve been unfaithful to Him, still He remains faithful to you. And for that, you should be eternally grateful!

Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank you for your greatness and faithfulness to me each day – even though I do not deserve it.  In Your Precious Name, Amen

Thank you for this devotion. It reminded me of something a friend said to me when she visited us recently. We drove her to many of the sites around here and at one point she asked whether we ever tire of looking at the mountains...or take them for granted. I answered "no" to both. We live in a valley about 70 miles from Las Vegas, surrounded by mountains. Even today with the temp. in the 60's the mountains are snow capped and very beautiful. Of course, during the summer the snow will have melted, but the mountains will still be beautiful. Instead of trees we have cactus, and instead of grass we have rocks, but I'm always in awe of our God's creation.
