Tim Hetzner, President of Lutheran Church Charities, who normally writes the daily devotions, is out of the country right now leading a Biblical Study tour in the Middle East. Trusting His Timetable
In his heart a man plans his course, but the LORD determines his steps.
Proverbs 16:9
Are you a person in a hurry? If so, you're probably not the only one in your neighborhood. We human beings are, by our very nature, impatient. We are impatient with others, impatient with ourselves, and impatient with God. We want things to happen according to our own timetables, but our Heavenly Father may have other plans. That's why we must learn the art of patience.
All too often, we are unwilling to trust God's perfect timing. We allow ourselves to become apprehensive and anxious as we wait nervously for God to act. Usually, we know what we want, and we know precisely when we want it: right now, if not sooner. But, when God's plans differ from our own, we must train ourselves to trust in His infinite wisdom and in His infinite love.
Sometimes, God's plans are crystal clear, but other times, He may lead you through the wilderness before He delivers you to the Promised Land. So be patient, keep praying, and keep seeking His will for your life. When you do, you will be amazed at the marvelous things that an all-powerful, all-knowing God can do.
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, You have plans for my life that are better than I can ever imagine. Help me to trust You to take care of my future and empower me to seek Your will in all I do. I pray this in Jesus' Name. Amen
