Much More Than Looks – Part 1
Finally, all of you, live in harmony with one another; be sympathetic, love as brothers, be compassionate and humble. 1 Peter 3:8
Fashion designers are concerned with the total look of the models they send down the runway. They must have perfect accessories such as the right hairstyle and make-up. And it’s the same with God: He created you as a whole person with specific features, personality traits and emotional responses. He designed you to be a vibrant, thinking, feeling, fully functioning human being with your own unique attractiveness. He endowed you with more than just physical appearance. He also gave you talents and spiritual gifts - inner qualities He wants you to develop and display for His glory. You see, who you are on the inside should determine how you see yourself on the outside. When your ‘looks’ determine your sense of worth, a few extra pounds or a bad-hair day can wipe you out! Refuse to live that way! The Bible says, “What matters is not your hair, jewelry, clothes, but your inner disposition. Cultivate inner beauty, "the kind that God delights in" (1 Peter 3:3-4). When your self-worth comes from God instead of men, you can wear a $5 outfit from a charity shop or a $500 one from an up market boutique. You’re fine either way, because you recognize that your outer appearance doesn’t define who you are. Inner beauty can’t be bought, taken off a rack, applied like make-up or put on like a new suit. It’s ‘an inside job’ that always finds a creative and appropriate expression on the outside. So, look at yourself today in God’s mirror and try to see what He values most - your inner beauty.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank you for endowing me with the good, inner qualities that can come only from you because of Your Grace and Your Mercy. Help me be thankful for the good you have given! In Jesus’ Name, Amen
