Knowing God’s Will

They asked each other, "Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?" Luke 24:32

Are you struggling to find God’s will? If so, take another look at the two confused disciples on the road to Emmaus. They thought they’d seen the death of Jesus and His movement, so, deeply discouraged, they packed their bags and headed home. Suddenly, Jesus appeared to them. How does Jesus reveal His will to us? You might be surprised at the simplicity of the process: (1) Through other believers. Their first mistake was to disregard the words of their fellow disciples. Listen: ‘Today some women among us amazed us. Early this morning they went to the tomb, but they did not find His body there. They came and told us ‘Jesus was alive’ (Luke 24:22-23). God’s plan hasn’t changed. He still speaks to believers through other believers. That’s why you need to be in church regularly. (2) Through the Scriptures. Listen: ‘Then starting with what Moses and all the prophets had said about Him, Jesus began to explain everything that had been written about Himself in the Scriptures’ (Luke 24:27). Their second mistake was disregarding the Word of God and listening to their fears. The answer’s simple and at your fingertips - check your Bible. God still speaks through His Word! (3) Through a burning heart. Listen: ‘They said to each other, ‘It felt like a fire burning in us when Jesus talked to us’’’ (Luke 24:32). God reveals His will to us by setting our hearts on fire. What ignites you? Forgotten orphans? Untouched nations? The inner city? Singles? Whatever it is - heed the fire within you!

Prayer
Heavenly Father, help me to “hear you speak” through others and in your Word so that I am not discouraged by the other voices I hear.  In Jesus’ Name, Amen
