Indifference - Our greatest threat!
People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God - having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with them.
2 Timothy 3:2-5
In New York City, a postman shot by a sniper is ordered out of a lobby because he’s dripping blood. On an Oklahoma City pavement, a mother gives birth while bystanders turn away, a taxi speeds off, and a hotel refuses her a blanket. In Ohio a woman drives her car into the Miami River, and people watch as she climbs on to the roof screaming that she can’t swim - and drowns. The Bible says, “in the last days, people will love only themselves .. consider nothing sacred .. and have no interest in what is good” (2 Timothy 3:1-3). Nineteen out of twenty-one civilizations decayed from within, because no one cared enough! Our greatest threat today isn’t nuclear weapons - it’s indifference. Walter Tubbs says: “If I do my thing and you do yours, we stand in danger of losing each other and ourselves. We are fully ourselves only in relation to each other, I do not find you by chance; I find you by an active life of reaching out.” The Bible says, “If anyone sees his brother in need but has no pity, how can the love of God be in him?”(1John 3:17). Good question, eh? Author Madeleine L Engle writes: “By refusing to get involved, we don’t have to smell the stench of filth, disease, and hunger. But none of us will escape the moment when we have to decide whether to: (a) withdraw; (b) play it safe; (c) act on what we know is right.” Remember, life’s about sowing and reaping. What you make happen for others, God will make happen for you! (See Ephesians 6:8).
Prayer
Heavenly Father, help me today to see and respond to the injustices that occur around me – and by your grace and mercy – act upon them! In Jesus’ Name, Amen
