THE PLACE OF THE TEST
On the third day Abraham looked up and saw the place in the distance. Genesis 22:4
Sometimes when your faith’s on trial, you need to get away from people. When God told Abraham, ‘Take your son - Sacrifice him - on one of the mountains, which I will point out to you’ (Genesis 22:2), Abraham didn’t know exactly where he was going. But God showed him - because when you walk with God He directs your steps! He’ll even hint about upcoming events. The problem is that we don’t always hear what His Spirit is saying to us! God usually doesn’t lead by theatrics; He’s not in the wind, the fire and the earthquake. But when you listen, His still, small voice will tell you who you can trust, where it’s safe to rest, and what to do next! Abraham didn’t know exactly which mountain to head for, but God said, ‘You’ll know it when you see it’. The Bible says, ‘On the third day - Abraham saw the place in the distance’ (Genesis 22:4). At that point, Abraham told his servants, ‘Stay here, the boy and I will [go and] worship - then we will come right back’ (Genesis 22:5). There’s a place in the trial where even those closest to you can’t go; a place where worship becomes a sacrifice! To worship means to express the worth (worth-ship) of something. The truth is that it’s not really worship until you lay something you value before God. And since you and I own nothing (God owns it) we are to place ourselves before God! Notice: Abraham said, “we will come right back”. Wow! Anytime you can say, ‘I don’t know how God’s going to intervene, but when this is over, I’m coming back”, you’ve already won the battle!
Prayer
Heavenly Father, help me follow you – laying my life down before you. In Jesus’ Name, Amen
