TO LOVE IS TO LISTEN
"Son of man, you are living among a rebellious people. They have eyes to see but do not see and ears to hear but do not hear, for they are a rebellious people. Ezekiel 12:2
The way to somebody’s heart is not just through talking - it’s through listening! It’s in asking the kind of questions which show that you really heard them, and that what they say is important to you. Sometimes men don’t get it (OK maybe most times!); when they can’t come up with a solution to the problem they think, ‘What’s the use of talking about it any further?’ Women on the other hand, often just want to share it with someone who cares, then they walk away feeling better. Did you hear about the husband watching television while his wife was trying to talk to him? Wife: ‘Dear, a pipe burst today and flooded the basement.’ Husband: ‘Uh-huh.’ Wife: ‘The plumber didn’t come to fix it.’ Husband: ‘Quiet please, the game’s on and we’re about to score.’ Wife: ‘Some of the faulty wiring got wet and almost electrocuted Fluffy.’ Husband: ‘Yes! Yes! A touch down!’ Wife: ‘The vet says he’ll be better in a week.’ Husband: ‘Would you get me a Coke please?’ Wife: ‘The plumber told me he was happy the pipe broke because it’ll cost so much to fix that he can now afford to take a vacation.’ Husband: ‘Aren’t you listening? I said I wanted a Coke!’ Wife: ‘And Stanley, I’m leaving you. The plumber and I are flying to Acapulco in the morning.’ Husband: ‘Can’t you please stop all that yakking and get me a Coke? - The trouble around here is that nobody ever listens to me!’ Sir, the moral of this story is - to love is to listen!
Prayer
Heavenly Father, help me to “actually” listen to others – especially those whom I love. Help me also listen to you and not simply pray words at you and not listen for your response! In Your Precious Name, Amen
