TAKE ON A PARTNER – DON’T TAKE ON MORE!

Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. Matthew 11:29

Walking with God should be energizing; it should restore our strength, not deplete it. Jesus said, ‘My yoke is easy and My burden is light,’ because He wants us to slow down and relax. But not us, no, we’ve perfected the gift of running in 40 different directions at the same time. Liz Curtis Higgs writes: ‘I used prayers like magic incantations, waving them over the situation like a wand, instead of desiring and seeking God’s will. Flying to a conference, I prayed the plane would arrive on schedule, instead of praying for a calm spirit no matter when it landed. In the morning, I ran around like a crazy woman trying to pack lunches and sign permission slips; I prayed for help, when peaceful preparation the night before might have been a better move. I went through each day as if I’d never hit a red light.’ Sound familiar? What’s the answer? The key lies in the shared yoke; working with Jesus, instead of against Him! I know - it’s easier in theory than in reality. We pray, ‘Thy will be done’ when we actually mean, ‘My will be done - and the sooner the better!’ And we keep getting into trouble. F.B. Meyer writes: ‘To know that the suffering need not have been; that it’s the harvest of our own sowing. Ah me! This is pain.’ Today, if you want to lighten your load, don’t take on more - take on a Partner! Yoke yourself with Jesus and learn to take your lead from Him.

Prayer
Heavenly Father, help me to stop flying solo and to trust you as the pilot! It will be a much smother ride and safer landing! In your name I pray, Amen

This is exactly the way I am. I will try my best to take on a partner for our VBS next week. I am hoping for a young person. That should be fun. Also thanks for such wonderful devotions. I took two with me to Kenya on our Mission trip.

    Hi Tim -

Thanks so much for daily sharing your insights. I am always blessed by what you write, and so many of the dailys are speaking to our situation right now. God certainly continues to speak!

I'd love to know which Liz Curtis Higgs book you quoted today. She is a favorite author, and don't recall reading this before. Could you send me the title?

Blessings on your work, and day!!

I want to live my life in such a way that each morning when my feet hit the floor,
    Satan says, "Oh, crap....She's awake!"
