HOW BIG IS YOUR GOD?
How great is God - beyond our understanding! The number of his years is past finding out. Job 36:26
Your answer to that question will determine how you live. Unless you believe your God is all-powerful, ever-present and approachable, you’ll: (a) live in anxiety believing that everything depends on you (b) shrink from sharing your faith in case you’re ridiculed or can’t find the right words (c) fail to be generous because the source of your security is you, not God (d) avoid confronting those who need it, because without the certainty of God’s acceptance you become a slave to people’s opinions. We live in an age that discourages wonder. We know the gender of unborn babies. We have caller ID. We even know who’s been elected before we vote because of electoral opinion polls. We’ve diminished marvel and awe, yet we still ache for it. When you shrink your concept of God to fit your own understanding, you pray without faith, work without passion, serve without joy, and suffer without hope. The result is fear, retreat, and loss of vision. But there’s one thing that’s guaranteed to restore our understanding of how big God is – serving, serving those in need in the Name of Jesus. God created us to be people who serve. “I was hungry, did you feed me, I was thirsty did you give me drink?...”(Matthew 25:35-46). We don’t serve God because He needs it, but because others do! In serving others we serve Jesus. Without serving, our perception of Him is incomplete. Without serving others in need: (1) we forget how great God really is (2) we overlook our calling and become self-involved (3) we lose our sense of wonder and gratitude by plodding through life with blinders on (4) we become self-reliant, stubborn and proud. So, have you served God today by helping someone in need?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, help me to see you in the person who is in need. Help me serve them as I would you. In Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen

How big is your God? What a great question--one of your best devotions yet.
