WORKING FOR YOUR GOOD
"Because the patriarchs were jealous of Joseph, they sold him as a slave into Egypt. But God was with him” Acts 7:9
Many birds fly in flocks, but eagles fly alone. To experience more of God in your life, you’ll have to learn to fly solo too. Now there’s nothing wrong with enjoying the company or considering the counsel of those you trust; just don’t get hung up on seeking their approval. God wants you to depend on Him alone. In Genesis, Joseph had a dream in which his entire family bowed before him. When he shared it with them, his life took a nose-dive. Listen: ‘‘boiling with envy...[they] sold Joseph into slavery’’ (Acts 7:9). When God blesses you, look out; it may not go over too well, especially with those who think it came at their expense. Even though Joseph’s impulsiveness landed him in prison, we read: ‘‘but God was with him.’ When what you’ve always leaned on is suddenly gone, it forces you to lean harder on God. God spent years doing a work in Joseph’s life before He could use him. Despite being betrayed by his family, slandered by Potiphar’s wife, and tossed into prison, character was being forged and skills were being honed that would one day qualify him to rule Egypt and save God’s people from famine. The Bible says, ‘‘If God be for us, who can be against us’’(Romans 8:31). God can schedule events and rearrange circumstances to get you to where you need to be on time and, while He’s doing it, equip you for your future. That’s because when you’re in your God-given purpose, ‘‘all things work together for good’’ (Romans 8:28).
Prayer
Heavenly Father, give me patience for you to “train me” and “mold me” and “teach me” what I need to know to do the good work you have in store for me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen
