DRIVEN OR LED?
Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall;
Isaiah 40:30
Have you learned to respect your limits? Or do you ‘take care of the whole world’, then go home wishing somebody would take care of you? Do you feel as though you constantly have to walk on water or maybe even turn it into wine? You’re like the driver who’s lost his way; instead of stopping to get help, you just increase your speed. Listen: ‘Even the youths shall faint and utterly fall’. Few things can humble us like failure. God will let us circle the same mountain until the scenery becomes so familiar and boring that we’re forced to stop and ask for direction - especially when we know that we’re not where God wants us to be. In Let Your Life Speak, Parker Palmer writes: ‘I was raised in a culture that insisted I could do anything; that I was without limits, given enough energy and commitment on my part; that God made things that way and all I had to do was get with the program. My troubles began when I started to slam into my limitations in the form of failure.’ Hello! What’s your most painful limitation? You know, the one you won’t admit? The one you don’t want anybody to see? In order to get help, you must (a) acknowledge it (b) seek honest feedback from those you trust enough to see your blind spots and help you deal with them (c) ask for God’s help in accepting the boundaries He has placed on you - for your own protection. These steps will liberate you and allow you to take back your life!
Prayer
Heavenly Father, help me to recognize my limitations on what I can and cannot accomplish. In Jesus’ Name, Amen
