HEADING HOME

Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever. Psalms 23:6

The bird’s name was Pootsie. When nobody else claimed her, the Humane Society gave her to Sue. They became fast friends. One day, the little bird did something incredible; it perched on her shoulder and whispered, ‘1500 South Oneida Street, Greenbay.’ Sue was dumbfounded. She discovered that the address actually existed. She went there and found a man named John Stroobants. ‘Do you have a parakeet’? she asked. ‘I used to, I miss him terribly.’ When he saw Pootsie, he was thrilled. ‘You know,’ he said, ‘he even knows his ‘phone number.’ This story isn’t as wacky as you might think. You have an eternal address written in your soul: ‘‘He has also set eternity in the hearts of men’’ (Ecclesiastes 3:11). Deep down, you know you’re not home yet, so be careful not to live as though you are. Would you hang pictures on the wall of the commuter train? Or set up house in a motel? The greatest calamity is not to feel far from home when you are, but to feel right at home when you’re not. But, ‘‘our homeland is in heaven’’ (Philippians 3:20). When we’re young, heaven has limited appeal. We’ve too many dreams like love, marriage, children, and career. But ageing? That’s God’s way of keeping us headed homeward. And death? We don’t get buried; we get planted - like flowers! We are ‘‘sown in weakness, raised in power’ (1 Corinthians 15:43). At our home-going, heaven announces, ‘Watch, that one’s just about to blossom!’ And what’s next? ‘‘We will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”

Prayer
Heavenly Father – I have a wonderful home that I have yet to see but I know it exists. Help me not get concerned with my housing arrangements here! In Jesus’ Precious Name, Amen

I really found hope and encouragement from this Devo. I have really enjoyed all the devos that were on Psalm 23. This past Monday my Mom was brought to the hospital for a blood clot in her leg, low blood pressure and a Urinary tract infection.I have prayed for her and sent many emails for others to pray for her also, I know that whatever happens if she is healed or goes to heaven it will be the Lords will. These Devos have helped me to always look to the Shepard and know how much He loves me and all people.
    Thank you!!
