DISCERNING THE VOICE OF GOD
The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned. 1 Corinthians 2:14
You’ll never have real discernment until you lay aside reasoning. Reasoning is a product of your head; it opens the door to fear and impossibility thinking. Discernment is a product of your spirit; it opens the door to faith and great accomplishments. Your head doesn’t understand spiritual things! So when your spirit brings forth discernment and your head starts arguing about it, you never make any progress. That’s because, ‘The natural man received not the things of the Spirit’’ (1 Corinthians 2:14). God says, ‘‘what I have planned, that will I do’ (Isaiah 46:11). God has a plan for your life and He’ll help you discern it, one step at a time. Your spirit knows things your head doesn’t know! Some of the things you’ve dismissed as ‘a hunch’ or ‘an intuition’ were actually God’s Spirit trying to convey the answer to you, but you kept rejecting it because it didn’t sound reasonable. It takes faith to operate in this realm! Faith made Peter leave the boat and risk walking on the water. Faith made Abraham leave the security of his father’s house and go out ‘not knowing whither he went’ (Hebrews 11:8). God doesn’t argue with us. He leads us by: (1) a persistent desire (2) an impression (3) a still small voice within (4) a scripture that’s illuminated to us. When He gives us a word of discernment, it’s like stepping out of the boat with Peter or walking into the unknown with Abraham. The question is, are you discerning enough to hear and respond to what He’s saying?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, help me to listen, learn, and discern your voice. In Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen
