Walking On Water - Part 5

"Come," he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus.  Matthew 14:29

There are many good reasons for stepping out of the boat; here are a few: (a) It’s how your faith is developed. (b) It’s the alternative to being average. (c) It’s how you discover your calling. But there’s a more important reason. Listen: ‘‘Peter walked on the water toward Jesus.’ Jesus isn’t in the boat; He’s in the water! We develop deep-water faith only when we’re willing to leave comfort, security and predictability, then step out with Him. You may have worked for years creating a manageable orderly life, maintaining an illusion of control. Then boom! God shakes everything up by asking you to step out in faith and face crises, fear, opportunity, and challenges that are ‘way too big’ for you to handle alone. Why? To increase your dependence on Him! Perhaps there was a time in your past when you risked sharing your faith, even though it meant facing rejection; giving, even though it involved personal sacrifice; serving, even though it meant you might fail. Sometimes you sank; sometimes you soared. But you ‘lived on the edge’ by faith! Now look at you - in your comfortable boat with padded chairs and stabilizers. You don’t even get seasick! In fact, now you don’t even feel the storm when it comes! Anytime you leave the security of the boat, two things will happen. (1) When you fail - and you will - you won’t be alone. Jesus will be no more than an arm’s-length from you. (2) Every now and then, when you do walk on water, it’ll make the struggle seem insignificant.

Prayer
Heavenly Father – thank you for being there on the water waiting for me to get out of my boat.  Give me the faith to walk with you – leading me where you want me to go.  In Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen

    Tim,

I just love your “Walking on Waters” devotional series. You keep challenging me to get out of the boat and live out my faith in new ways knowing that I may sometimes fail. Yet Christ is there to pick me up and give me his peace. Have a great weekend. WEK

    Tim,

I am not certain that you will get this, but I just LOVE these!! God is speaking to me through these devotions. They are just the right encouragement at just the right time...it is amazing how God works...2 months ago these devotions would have most likely been "speed read" and deleted by me (or just deleted with great Christian guilt!!) I am so looking to step out and walk on the water in many ways. I pray for God's help and thank you for your perfect timing. I just thought that it must be the "mid-life crisis" and it turns out to be the voice of God!!!

    Seriously...keep up the good work!
