ABIDING – Part 2"As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. John 15:9
If our need for a relationship with God is so deep and constant, why do so few of us pursue it? One of the primary reasons is we’re convinced that God remembers all the bad we’ve done and is quick to judge how we’re doing now. Why would anybody want to spend time with a God like that? List the qualities of your best friend: (1) She accepts me. (2) He makes time for me. (3) I always leave their presence feeling better. Well, what you appreciate in a best friend is precisely what God offers you today. This God - your Friend, wants to abide with you even more than you want to abide with Him! Jesus said, ‘As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; abide in My love’ (John 15:9). Did you catch that? Stay, luxuriate, and find real love ‘in My love!’ If we were really abiding in His love, we’d come away feeling so nourished, so cherished, so liked, that we’d rush back to Him whenever we could. Annie, a mother of four, writes, ‘I’m not just reading my Bible or making requests anymore. I listen for Him. I meditate on His Word. I write down what I hear Him saying to me. I try to make this time as honest, deep, and intimate as possible. When I started having devotional times, it was as if I was getting my time card stamped by heaven. ‘Yes, she was here, a whole 10 minutes!’ Not anymore. Lately, I’ve had to drag myself away.’ Annie discovered the rewards of abiding - you can too.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, all relationships take time – on both parties. You have given me all Your time Dear Lord; help me spend the time with You today, that I can get to know You better. In Jesus’ Name, Amen
