The question the Chief Shepherd most wants His under-shepherd to answer isn’t, 'How much do you know about Me?' Or even, 'How much are you telling others about Me?' No; it’s, 'How much do you love Me?' If you really love Him and want to do His will, answer these questions: (1) Am I a loner in my service to my Lord? When Dr. David Yonggi Cho, Pastor of the world’s largest church (800,000 members), spoke to 1,000 ministers in Buffalo, New York, he introduced one of his staff members. 'I always bring this man with me,' he said, 'because I am susceptible to sexual temptations and he’s my safe-guard.' The atmosphere was silent, but everybody knew what he meant. (2) Am I honest about my weaknesses? Most of us have a tendency to try and cover them up. What are your areas of weakness? Do you smile publicly, but secretly resent it when others disagree with you? Do you get into things simply because they’re ego-gratifying? Do you set a standard for others that you don’t live up to yourself? The first step to overcoming is admitting you have a problem. (3) Is my commitment to God constantly before me? Paul writes, '... stay the way you were when God called you' (1 Corinthians 7:20). There’s nothing more tragic than losing your focus and getting side-tracked. When Paul stood before King Agrippa, he said, '... I was not disobedient unto the heavenly vision' (Acts 26:19). If you’ve been truly called of God to lead, you’ll be able to say that, too!
